AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER: BIOMEDICAL TREATMENT
Our approach to ASD treatments and management is guided very much by Dr. William Shaw’s Biological Treatment considerations and those of the DAN community.
Non-invasive testing and assessment if pursued, are typically begun with food sensitivity and allergy testing, followed potentially by Organic Acid Testing, Comprehensive Diagnostic Stool Analysis and, or heavy metal testing.
Recommendations and interventions begin with dietary interventions, possible food desensitization (Low Dose Antigen Therapy), and a practical, manageable supplementation regimen, that is developed in discussion with patients and, or parents. Goals are individualized, as is treatment.
What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?
Autism spectrum disorder is a condition related to brain development that impacts how a person perceives and socializes with others, causing problems in social interaction and communication. Symptoms and level of functioning may vary widely.
Symptoms can include varying degrees of intense focus on one item, unresponsiveness or avoiding eye contact, lack of understanding social cues, or avoiding social interaction, repetitive movements, or self-abusive behavior like head-banging. Communication may be delayed or lacking, and the frustrating challenge of expressing needs may result in acting out, screaming or crying.
